A Multidisciplinary Space

The Auditorium opened along with the Pyramid in 1989 and is located just beneath it, in the center of the Louvre complex. Combining light oak paneling, walls lined with Chassagne stone, and a white concrete ceiling, I. M. Pei has created one of the Grand Louvre's most beautiful spaces. The 450-seat hall is endowed with excellent acoustics and optimal sightlines throughout. Equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment, the Auditorium presents a wide spectrum of events, ranging from slide lectures to silent films with live musical accompaniment.

Mission

The Louvre Auditorium has a threefold mission: to provide a platform for the museum's scholarly research and core disciplines (archaeology, art history, and museography); to broaden perspectives and increase attendance at the Louvre by organizing events covering aesthetics, literature, architecture, cinema, and music; to provide the public with new ways to discover and explore the Louvre's collections in depth (lectures, conferences, films, readings, concerts, and silent films accompanied by music).

300 Events Each Season

The Auditorium is a multidisciplinary space offering a selection of informative programs (lectures, conferences, film projections, readings, concerts, and silent films accompanied by music). Special seasons complement the Louvre's changing program of temporary exhibitions. Children's shows (storytelling, films, and concerts) are specially designed to familiarize young audiences with the Louvre's collections.
